Outdoor Underwater Mural – creates a special effect!

Underwater Mural

Do you have  a concrete wall in the backyard or in the front of your home or office? It can become an eye-catcher with a mural.

Like this underwater mural with cartoonish water creatures.  When we did this mural – it was by the way my first mural, yep, it all started with this one - people who walked by stopped and were very impressed by the created effect.

I did this mural more than 10 years ago and when I saw it 5 years ago it the colors were shiny and vibrant like after completion.

Beach Mural for a Nursery

Sand castle
Sand castle

The mural had been done all around the room and included the ceiling too.

The sand castle, dolphins, palm trees and an umbrella in the corner changed the baby room into a wonderful beach scene.

Italian Landscape Mural in Old World style

Pomme granate tree
Pomegranate tree

This pomegranate tree is part of  a big mural in the hallway of a Bel Air residence.

It was done completely in Old World style, featuring an Italian landscape, trees, cypresses, lemons, grapes and flowers.

The background is like a faux finish, subtle colors and fading.  It reminds of the Da Vinci times when the world was calmer and more relaxed.

A Romantic Mural for your bedroom

Bird's Nest
Bird’s Nest

This cute bird’s nest is in the guestroom of a private home in Pacific Palisades.

It would look nice  in a children’s bedroom, a nursery or a bathroom.
The nest is surrounded by white flowers which are growing down the door frame.

The bedroom is decorated in French Country Style and the bird’s nest is just adding a romantic touch to the overall design.

How to make a room look bigger – Restaurant Mural

Commercial Mural

Mural for a restaurant featuring a Swiss city at the beautiful Zurich Lake

The restaurant had a small and long room which they used for private parties but it was not booked as it should.

The wall where you see the mural is a fold-able door which is connected to the main room of the restaurant.

We faux finished this wall first, then added a window mural to open up the small space. The intention was to make the room look bigger with an additional window. The result was fabulous! The restaurant owner told us later that it was much easier for him to rent out the room for private parties and events.

We do all kinds of commercial mural and wall finishes.

Greek Wall Mural for the Backyard

Greek Mural
Greek Mural

This is a wall of  a garage which was white. My clients did some very nice landscaping and added a pavilion tent which looked very good with the typical Greek colors blue and white.

It is a typical Greek setting that you will find on very many Greek islands. If you are a fan of Greece and have a backyard wall you will like this wall mural.

Asian Mural for Diningroom or bathroom

Do you like the Asian style of interior design?  I did this Bamboo Mural for a dining room and it made such a big difference. My client had many Asian accents in her home and the Bamboo wall made the dining room look perfect. Such a mural can be in a hallway or living room as well as in a bathroom. In fact it looks like hand painted wall paper and such a look adds some sophisticated touch to the space.

Tropical Mural

  • Choose a templateFor the bathroom I got a picture (in this case from the Interior Designer) and I used it as a template;  it was a tropical scene which the client liked a lot.

    Step 2
    Make the draft (design)

You can do a little drawing or use your painting computer programs such as Photoshop. I always take a picture of the blank wall and copy and paste the mural elements into the photograph. For the tropical mural I took some elements of the photo and combined them with other ideas like hibiscus flowers, tropical plants and so on.
I will show you a detailled draft in my next article.

Step 3
Paint the mural
If the mural needs a light coating you would do this first. For the tropical landscape I used a white surface because of the different colors (sky and forest)
Then you do the outlines; I use charcoal – I would not recommend pencil or any other paint.
Fill in hte background colors for the sky and forest, so a foliage green and sky blue which I . Use light colors and systematically add the details. You can do them freehand or project them. For this mural I used the projector only for the plant named bird of paradise in the right corner.

Step 4
The mural’s details would be added at the end, some highlights, deeper tones and little lines here and there. It has to come alive.
After it was finished I sealed the mural with a matt finish to protect it from moisture.
